A safer way to pay someone you’ve never met.
Prepaylynk holds payments in escrow until both sides of a deal agree it’s done, so buying and selling stops depending on blind trust.
It started with a viewing fee that never came back.
Before Prepaylynk existed, our founder paid a broker to view a property listed for rent. He found the house on Jiji, contacted the broker, and was told it was available. The broker requested an inspection fee of UGX 100,000. He hesitated, but because he really wanted the house, he paid.
On the day of the viewing, they jumped on two bodas, expecting to go to Kiwatule. Instead, they ended up in Najjera 2. When they arrived, the house didn't even match the listing. The broker then explained that the original house had been taken that morning but he had another one they could see.
He asked for his money back. The broker refused. Even when he asked for half of it, he was still refused. So, having already paid, he agreed to see another property. They went to Kigowa, only to find a studio. After another call to the broker, they headed to Nalya to see yet another property.
After three hours of moving around, he finally called it quits. The boda riders wanted UGX 70,000, and after a heated back-and-forth, he eventually paid UGX 50,000 and left. He had lost money, time, and peace of mind and still hadn't found a house. That experience left one simple question: Why does finding a place to live have to involve so much uncertainty and trust? That question became part of the reason we started building Prepaylynk.
“If the UGX 150,000 had been held in escrow, our founder would have known exactly what he was paying for including who was responsible for the viewing and transportation and if the agreed service wasn't delivered, the money could have been returned instead of becoming a fight.”
This isn't just a property problem. It happens every day in businesses where people are asked to pay upfront and simply hope the service or delivery follows. From brokers and service providers to repairs, bookings, transport, and everyday purchases, the same trust gap exists: money moves first, and accountability comes later. Prepaylynk is built to change that by making payment conditional on delivery, so both sides know what has been agreed, what is expected, and when the money should be released.
The principles behind every decision.
Fairness for both sides
Neither the buyer nor the seller should have to go first, blindly. Escrow means both parties are protected at the same time, not one at the other's expense.
Transparency, always
You should never have to wonder where your money is. Held, released, refunded: every state of an Order is visible to both sides, every time.
Built for how Africa actually trades
Mobile money first, no bank account required, and pricing that makes sense for a UGX 20,000 order as much as a property deposit.
Wherever payment happens before delivery.
If a deal depends on trusting a stranger with money before you can verify what you’re getting, escrow belongs there.
